Being the 3rd Tuesday of the month it was my (Garry) turn to both select location and manage the driving. Today, we went to Mary's Cheers Bar in Manheim. This is another of the bars that we have traveled to that are near the fringe of Lancaster County's border. We found out very quickly, it was well worth the drive!
As we entered the bar we were greeted immediately by Mary, the bar's owner. She was a very cheerful lady and encouraged us as well as her other customers to engage and become a part of the conversation. We did find out that the other patrons were not necessarily locals or frequent customers, it was just Mary's way to be inclusive of all. I think it would be fair to say that the environment encouraged all to be spirited in a very friendly way.
As bars go these days, there was not a great selection of beer on tap if you look at the numbers. There were four taps with (thankfully) only one of the "Light" variety. Making up for the lower number of taps was a large refrigerator with an adequate supply of bottled or canned beers which would easily satisfy most beer lovers tastes.
This is a bar and restaurant and while we typically do not sample the eats we do look around and "measure" the place. From what we saw, the whole restaurant area was spotless as was the bar where we consumed our beverages. I did make use of the men's room before leaving and found that it too was extremely clean. When up in the area to visit the Manheim Auto Auction or the Iron Valley Harley Davidson dealer across the street we recommend you stop by Mary's Cheers Bar for a cool one. If you are lucky, Mary will be there to greet you!
